2025 Playoffs

The 2025 MCHL playoffs will be held February 21st-23rd. Most games will be played at the Lou and Gibb Ice Arena in Newark. The playoffs are a single elimination tournament. Good luck to all our teams.

The following tie-breaks will be used to determine seeds should two or more teams be tied in points at the conclusion of the regular season:

1. Head to head record

2. Most wins

3. Goal differential

4. Fewest goals against

5. Fewest penalty minutes

6. If more than two teams are tied, once one team has been determined to win the tie-break, the tie-breaks will then be re-applied to the remaining teams starting with head to head record

2024 MCHL Seeding Tournament

The MCHL Seeding tournament will be August 23rd-25th this year. Thanks to all the teams participating.

The full schedule and rules are below:

Rules:

1. For each game, there will be a two-minute warmup, followed by a 25-minute running clock game.  The clock does NOT stop for any reason (eg. injuries, penalties, discussions with refs).  You have only your allocated time to complete the game, you are not allowed to run late.  Post game handshakes will be eliminated to ensure we use the ice available as efficiently as possible.  These games are intended to evaluate the competitive levels of the teams involved, wins and losses are secondary, so please avoid late game shenanigans to kill the clock (eg. late line changes, arguing with refs etc.).

2. Minor penalties will be 1 minute. Major penalties will be 3 minutes and the offending player will be ejected from the game.  Start the penalty time at the drop of the puck.  Players receiving 2 major penalties in seeding may be suspended for the rest of seeding at the discretion of the commissioner.  If something egregious happens in your game, please notify me immediately.

3. Home teams (listed first) will wear light colored jerseys and are responsible for the clock and scorekeeping – see below as there are updates to how scorekeeping will be completed this season in the MCHL.   Away teams will wear dark jerseys.  Each team needs a volunteer in their penalty box.  The league will provide referees.

4. We will be introducing digital GameSheet at seeding, and using it for all league games this season.  Seeding will give us all a good opportunity to learn the software, so that we are ready once the season begins.  I’m told it’s very simple to learn.  Home teams will now need to bring their own Ipad to games.  There will be no paper scoresheets required for seeding or league games.

5. At the conclusion of your game please email the score to mchlcommissioner@gmail.com.  We also want your feedback on the game:  was the other team a good match for you, or should they be in a higher or lower division than your team?

6. Once seeding is complete I will have a discussion with your coaches about where your team best fits.  It is possible that your team may not be a good fit for the league.  This process takes a few days.  Once division assignments are finalized, I will send you a list of the managers in your division, and you may schedule your league games. It is our plan this year to host a virtual meeting in the week following seeding for all the managers to facilitate scheduling.  Our hope is that your league schedule can be completed by the end of the meeting.  More information on this will come closer to seeding.

WELCOME TO THE DAYTON STEALTH

The Dayton Stealth have agreed to join the MCHL for the 2024-2025 season. We look forward to their participation and believe they will be an excellent addition to the MCHL.
